De zwitserse designer Bettina Geistlich heeft de 'Red Dot: best of the best award 2009' gewonnen.
Uit het juryrapport:
The Swiss graduate designer Bettina Geistlich designs and manufactures innovative jewellery under the name ”formabina“. Her works are characterised by a distinctive interplay of form, material and technology as inseparable unity. A classic example for this philosophy is the “sphaira” ring that has now succeeded in one of the most renowned international design competitions. In the red dot award: product design 2009 the top-class jury awarded the “red dot: best of the best” for highest design quality only 49 times among the over 3000 submitted products.
Blooming symmetry
The “sphaira” ring with its apparently arbitrary convolutions is reminiscent of flowers and twines found in nature, yet it actually follows a highly logical system: each of the six identical blooms made of round wire determines the position of the others by its pentamerous radial symmetry. They are mutually dependent, in order to form the light body of the flower ball. Inseparable, yet at the same time mobile, they entwine themselves around one another in a regular up-and-down pattern and add to the aesthetic bouquet of gold – at the same time, one of the petals forms the ring rail with a flowing loop.
Sensual rapid prototyping
The appeal of this ring shows as an impressive symbiosis between sensuality and elegance, an interaction between artistic and technical quality that is achieved through a sophisticated industrial manufacturing process: the virtual CAD volume model is constructed as a real wax model in the 3D printing process and then cast in gold using the lost-wax process. Thus, in the “sphaira” ring, innovative technology and sensual charm are united in a design of harmonious form – similar to nature it inspires the wearer with its poetry.
“sphaira“ around the globe
The “sphaira” ring from the actual collection of “formabina” is – together with pendants and earrings form the “sphaira” line – present at selected national and international jeweller’s shops and galleries.
